Ushers play an important role in the liturgy.  Some ushers serve as greeters also, so they welcome people who are entering the church.  They are alert and attentive to the needs of people as they enter the church and during the liturgy.  Ushers help people find seating, especially at the larger liturgical celebration such as Easter and Christmas.  They take up the collection during the offertory.  They make sure the bulletins are put out, and at some of the Masses they hand them out as people leave the church. The ministry of being a warm, welcoming presence as an usher, like greeting, is crucial in the church because ushers are very visible.
